A Study Of . . . Washington NJ / High School On Taylor St, #004 |
|
Good old Golden Rule days. By 1917, the building had received only one addition, in 1888, since its opening in 1874 , and was now stuffed to capacity and in dire need of another expansion. This time, the addition of eight classrooms was grafted onto the front, and completely covered over the building's previous character. At that time, an auditorium and a gymnasium were also added. A quick study of this picture and the preceding one (#3), which are both taken from about the same angle, will easily reveal the metamorphosis of this structure. The original portion of the building appears to be smothered between the rear and front expansions.
