Edsen speaks:  "Here's a view which clearly demonstrates what I spoke about in image #9, that since the collapse of a major section of rock in 1954, railings now hold you back a 'safe distance' from the brink. This is a far cry from the days when, in the dead of winter, tourists would be allowed, encouraged even, to venture out onto the frozen river. [see pictures of this in the Winter Wing of this NF Gallery] This practice of "promenading on the ice bridge" was immediately halted in 1912 when 3 tourists floated to their deaths after the ice unexpectedly broke up."
