A Study Of . . . Niagara Falls / Both Falls, #005

#005 skylon model

A strange card, indeed:  Here, we see that a view of the American Falls and a view of the Canadian Falls are strung together, (completely eliminating Goat Island - only the tip of Terrapin Point can be seen to the right of the tower shaft) and the seam is hidden by what appears to be a model of the Skylon Tower.  The card dates from early 1964, and is believed to have been promotional in nature. Printed prior to the completion of the Skylon, no photo of the actual tower was available so a model was used, perhaps the very one made by the architects when designing the structure.  Bearing all this out is the fact that the Skylon opened very late in 1964.
